Handcrafted started back in 2012 when a small group of people at Kings Church Durham felt God was calling them to start something to help disadvantaged people in Durham. They started out by running woodwork and gardening activities, giving people the chance to get out of the house and get stuck in, learning new skills and finding new interests. Handcrafted started to grow, taking on their first staff member in 2013 to coordinate their volunteers and projects. Our shoulder to shoulder approach builds a strong team where all members work together resulting in innovative solutions to problems encountered on an individual and group level.

We provide safe and stable homes, one-to-one mentoring, love, mental health support, social activities and the offer of Christian support and prayer. Restore (York) Ltd is a Christian charity set up to provide homes and support for people in York who would otherwise be homeless. Restore works in partnership with Green Pastures to purchase and manage properties to provide support for it’s tenants so that having found a home they are also equipped to sustain their tenancy.

We are known as an innovative Christian charity that is an exemplar in the fields of spiritual infrastructure support and community transformation. We support new and existing community initiatives to develop stronger ties and meaningful connections within both the faith community and wider civic contacts. One of our main concerns is to help those who help others, or who need help themselves, to have a voice to influence decision making and service delivery direct from government. Particularly marginalised members of society who rely heavily on such public services as the NHS, Council, Police and transport. Spring Mount is a church that wants to reach people for Jesus and we believe that everybody needs to be loved. Isaiah 58 is a key passage for us and we have community meals every week, we provide food for those that are desperately in need, refer to the food bank and run CAP debt centre and all of the CAP courses across our 2 sites, with a view to reaching into a 3rd. The areas our church is now based are wards that are high in child poverty, drug misuse and teenage pregnancy. We want to love our communities and have organised ad hoc housing arrangements over the last two years which have helped individuals immensely, but very much like the Green Pastures beginnings, we see the need to do this in a more organised and sustainable manner.

We are a relationship-building community where people become true family. We know that intentional community-supported growth towards wholeness inevitably places God as our central focus. That focus enables us to work, grow, and communicate from a place of authentic grace and love. When this happens people aren’t just impacted — entire communities are completely transformed; relationships improve, marriages flourish, families heal, and businesses thrive. The arts, entertainment, and education are influenced, and cities are built up with new life.

We provide a supportive community to those who previously had no home, with the aim of sustainable independent living. Based in Basingstoke, Hampshire the organisation started in 2015.  Founder and trustee, Liz Howe, who spent over seven years working at a night shelter, was saddened to see former residents, who had initially found ‘move on’ accommodation, returning to the streets. She became determined to find a way of providing longer term supported housing where people can stay until they are ready for sustainable independent living. At the dwelling place we believe in and fight for the rights of those enslaved by their past. We provide a sanctuary and a safe place to dwell in acceptance, respect and restoration.

We strongly believe in the power of the incarnational model of mission, and we believe that if a group of believers move in to troubled streets in our town, carrying the presence of Jesus, we will see God’s kingdom break out in these dark places. Since then we have seen much growth and now have a dedicated team of volunteers and eight paid staff. Once accommodated we offer advocacy and pastoral support, as well as meeting practical needs like food, to our clients. We want to see a more just asylum system where no one is left destitute.

Orchards

LONDON

VIEW FULL PROFILE >
Orchards is a charity with a vision to see women free from sexual exploitation. Housing can act both as a reason for entry into prostitution and as a barrier to exiting. There are very few safe houses for women post-National Referral Mechanism or who are ineligible to receive NRM support and current provision does not meet the high demand, so the risk of re-trafficking or homelessness is high. We provide clusters of safe, one-bedroom flats for women who have experienced sexual exploitation and who are not entitled to state housing support, enabling them to continue their journey towards a sustained exit from prostitution.

Searchlight Scotland

Abderdeen

VIEW FULL PROFILE >
In 2018, Searchlight Scotland was founded with a mandate to fully restore those with a history of vulnerability and exploitation. We began with a single home to help women with life controlling issues and shortly after welcomed our first survivor of Modern Slavery. Since then it has been a breathtaking leap into the underbelly of British Society. Caring for some of the most vulnerable and exploited men, women and children in the country, Searchlight provide care for women with life controlling issues, with future plans to become part of the support network for the care of survivors of Modern Slavery in Scotland.

Arimathea Trust

Nottingham

VIEW FULL PROFILE >
Nottingham Arimathea Trust is a small housing charity with a clear mission to support destitute asylum seekers, newly recognised refugees and modern slavery/trafficking victims. Arimathea was born in 2007 when there was an overwhelming need to house asylum seekers whose cases have been refused. It was initially set up by the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham of the Church of England where a house was allocated to the Trust from surplus housing stock. Fast forward more than a decade later and Arimathea now has 20 properties housing around 70 residents.
